There are two basic factors why top photographers are on top of the popular list:
1) Their photos are indeed top-rated.
2) Their gallery is popular due to massive visit from photos fans.

So how do you get more traffic to your Flickr gallery?

Passively, describe each one of your photo with proper keywords on the photo title and description. Include a photo tag for the photo as well. For example, describe your photo title as “Sunset at Bako beach” instead of “IMG20100101.JPG”. This method will allow search engines to search your Flick gallery with the matching keywords.

Join Flickr groups that deal with the same photo themes that you are involved with. And after you have uploaded your photo, submit your photo to that group. Your photo will get some views.

If you have a Twitter account, tweet about for Flickr photo.

If you have a FaceBook account, link your Flickr gallery to your FaceBook profile to gain attention (and visits) from your friends or FaceBook buddy. In fact, published your Flickr gallery link to all your social networking sites.

In fact, I also have came across, Flickr gallery owners publishing their link in Traffic Exchange, just to get their photo viewed. This method is not recommended since those views are not voluntarily. You know want I mean.
