The noisy horns were one of the biggest talking points of the 2010 World Cup, but vuvuzelas are unlikely to take hold in British football stadiums in the upcoming season.

Eight English Premier League clubs have banned the South African instruments ahead of the August 14 kick-off of the 2010-11 campaign, calling them potential weapons, annoyances and a health risk.

Champions League qualifiers Tottenham were the first in the top flight to outlaw the droning plastic trumpets, following in the footsteps of several lower-league clubs.

“Following discussions with the police and representatives from the local licensing authorities, the club will not be permitting vuvuzelas or similar instruments into White Hart Lane on match days,” the Londoners said on their website.

“We are concerned that the presence of the instruments within the stadium pose unnecessary risks to public safety and could impact on the ability of all supporters to hear any emergency safety announcements.

“We are very proud of the fantastic atmosphere that our supporters produce organically at White Hart Lane and we are all very much looking forward to this continuing into the forthcoming season.”

London rivals Arsenal swiftly followed suit.

“Further to their hugely debated involvement at this summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa, Arsenal Football Club has decided to forbid the use of vuvuzelas within Emirates Stadium with immediate effect,” read a statement.

“This decision has been taken to ensure the enjoyment and safety of supporters on match-days, which is of paramount importance to the club.”

Another London club, West Ham, said vuvuzelas were ruled out under the health and safety regulations of their Upton Park stadium, which already bars musical bands.

“We would not allow them into the stadium as they could be considered a weapon and could also be considered to be an annoyance to others,” read a Hammers statement.

“The health and safety regulation that all of this comes under is already in place.

The club wishes at all times to ensure that all supporters are allowed to enjoy the game they are watching and prides itself on the passionate, loud and robust support from our fans at all matches at Upton Park.”

Sunderland said it had similar policies about musical instruments at the Stadium of Light, while Liverpool, Birmingham, Everton and Fulham have also banned vuvuzelas.

However, the English Football Association has no plans to stop fans taking the horns to the national stadium Wembley, the UK Press Association reported on Wednesday.

England play Hungary in an international friendly there on August 11, while the traditional season curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, will take place at the London venue three days earlier.

I’m preparing a presentation on ‘Finding Readers for your Blog’ which I’ll be giving at the Melbourne Blog Training Day next Tuesday.

It’s got me thinking back to some of the bigger days of traffic that I’ve had on my own blogs over the years and I thought I’d open up some discussion on the topic to see if we can identify any trends.

What was your biggest day of Traffic (or ‘days’ if you can think of more than one) and what happened to make them occur?

I asked this on Twitter yesterday and it was interesting to see the responses. Some of the reasons giving included:

controversial posts

creative posts

random links from bigger sites

social bookmarking events (getting popular on Digg or Delicious)

ranking high for terms in Google around big news events

breaking a scoop news story

I’m sure we’ll see some of these themes in your experiences but know that there will be other themes too.

For me there have been many bigger than normal days over the last 8 years. Two that spring to mind include:

My Six Figure Blogging Moment – I had been blogging for a while and suddenly realised that I was on track for over $100,000 in a year earnings from my blogs. The first time I mentioned it was in an interview that I did. I didn’t really think about the implications of talking about it at the time but that interview went viral – as did my followup post. What kicked it all off was a mention on Slashdot (which at the time was equivalent to getting on the front page of Digg).

Front page of Yahoo (sort of) – then there was the day that a post on my photography blog was featured by one of Yahoo’s tech blogs. That in itself didn’t sent much traffic but when that particular Yahoo blog’s post was featured on the front page of Yahoo for 4-5 hours one day I saw traffic hit my blog like I’ve never seen traffic before or since. I don’t remember the exact numbers but I saw more traffic from that 4-5 hours than I’d normally see in a week of traffic.

So now it’s over to you. What Was Your Biggest Traffic Day and Why did it Happen?

Post from: Blog Tips at ProBlogger.

I’m going to come right out and say it: I’m a Lady Gaga fan.

I didn’t really know who she was until about 6 months ago. I knew the name, but hadn’t heard the music or learned about the artist. Then I heard the music and my first thought was: “pop genius.” That said, it wasn’t until I heard/read a few interviews and witnessed how she carried herself that I actually became a fan.

Lady Gaga isn’t just a pop genius, she’s an unapologetic strong-willed marketing genius as well.

There is a lot to be learned from someone like that.

Here’s the tip of the iceberg …

1) Be opinionated. Take a side. Lady Gaga isn’t afraid to speak out on issues she feels strongly about. In doing so, she keeps herself in the public eye. Even more, she attracts her right people.

2) Don’t be afraid to make money. Blatant product placements in the biggest video of the year? Sure, why not? There is nothing wrong with making ridiculous amounts of cash if that’s what you want to do. There is no such thing as a sellout. If you want to put ads on your blog, do it. If you want to sell products, do it. Don’t apologize. You should be paid to create art. Being a starving artist is nothing to be proud of.

3) Don’t call your fans fans. Give them something unique to connect with. Gaga calls her fans Little Monsters. Chris Guillebeau has a Small Army. Adam Baker has The Militia. And I have the Freedom Fighters. (Whoa, I just noticed a bit of a military theme!)

4) Be different even if it’s obvious you’re trying to be different. But don’t state that you’re different, because if you have to put it into words then it’s not true. Confusing? How about this: there are too many normal people with normal blogs and normal writing. You are extraordinary so show it. (Show, don’t tell.)

5) Be good to your Little Monsters. Treat them well and they will reciprocate and make you a superstar. During concerts, Lady Gaga calls a fan in the audience from the stage and invites them to have a drink with her after the show. Whoa! What can you do to connect with your people on a deeper level?

Personal example:

For the Version 0.9 launch of How To Live Anywhere, if you were one of the 132 who bought in the first 24 hours you got a hand written postcard from Goa, India.

Why? 3 reasons:

1) I wanted to thank the Freedom Fighters for changing the world, because every sale in the first 24 hours got doubled (by me) and sent to Kiva.org. I ended up sending $1600!

2) I wanted to thank the Freedom Fighters for taking quick, decisive action. Because that’s really what the Ridiculously Extraordinary Movement is about, action.

3) In this ever expanding online universe I wanted to connect with the Freedom Fighters old school. Yeah, it took me a good 6 hours to write out those postcards, but it was worth it.

6) Piss lots of people off. You can’t please everybody, right? Take it a step further and piss off the people that you’re not going to please anyway. It keeps Gaga in the news and reinforces her message.

7) Befriend the right people. Lady Gaga has, among others, people like Perez Hilton on her side. Having someone like Perez, who influences pop culture strongly himself, in her corner is a perfect ally in her quest for pop world domination.

Produce killer content. Gaga writes ridiculously good pop hits. Undeniable. She doesn’t produce an extraordinary amount of content, but everything she does is done very well.

9) Don’t be ashamed of the mainstream. Gaga straight up admits her pop sensibilities are calculated. Everything she does is on purpose. Shoot for the top of your niche with your blog or don’t take a shot at all.

What did I miss? What other lessons can Lady Gaga teach us about blog domination?

“But it has been decided that actually the mosques are facing Somalia or Kenya, so we are now suggesting people shift the direction slightly to the north-west,” the head of the MUI, Cholil Ridwan, told Reuters. “There’s no need to knock down mosques, just shift your direction slightly during prayer.”

Ridwan said Muslims need not fear that their prayers have been wasted because they were facing the wrong way.

“Their prayers will still be heard by Allah,” he said.

Said Agil Siradj, head of Indonesia’s largest Muslim organisation Nahdlatul Ulama, told English language newspaper the Jakarta Globe that the confusion showed the MUI issued edicts too fast and that this was a lesson for them.

The MUI has, in the past, issued controversial edicts banning Muslims from chanting during yoga, and from smoking.

The only problem is that there is a lot of skilled workers but less job openings. Blame it on the poor global economy.

Anyway, below is a list of in-demand workers in top five arenas.

Accounting

In the US, those who have a few years of corporate auditing experience working for a large public accounting firm can negotiate a sweet package for themselves when they change jobs.

That applies whether they’re leaving the accounting firm to go work for a corporation or if they’re seeking to return to the public accounting firm from an auditing job at an individual company.

College graduates with an accounting degree but not yet a CPA designation might make between $35,000 and $45,000 a year, or up to $50,000 in large cities like New York. After a couple of years they can command a substantial pay hike if they move to large company as an internal staff auditor or to a smaller company as controller. At that point, their salary can jump to anywhere from $50,000 to $75,000.

The expectation is that they will obtain their CPA designation.

If they choose to return to a public accounting firm as an audit manager after a couple of years at a corporation they can earn a salary of $70,000 to $85,000.

Sales and marketing

The healthcare and biomedical fields offer some handsome earnings opportunities for those on the business side.

Business development directors, product managers and associate product managers working for medical device makers, for instance, can do quite well for themselves if they develop a successful track record managing the concept, execution and sales strategy for a medical device before jumping ship.

Typically, they have an MBA in marketing plus at least two to three years’ experience on the junior end to between five and eight years’ experience at the more senior levels. That experience ideally will be in the industry where they’re seeking work.

An associate product manager might make a base salary of $55,000 to $75,000. A product manager can make a base of $75,000 to $95,000, while a business development director may make $120,000 to $160,000. Those salaries don’t include bonuses.

The business development director seeking a vice president position could boost his base to between $150,000 to $200,000 — depending on whether the new company is a risky start-up or established device maker.

Legal

Intellectual property attorneys specializing in patent law and the legal secretaries who have experience helping to prepare patent applications are highly desirable these days.

The most in demand are those lawyers with not only a J.D. but also an advanced degree in electrical and mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, pharmacology or computer science.

Even those patent lawyers who just have an undergraduate degree in those fields have a leg up.

Patent lawyers working for a law firm might make $125,000 to $135,000 to start or about $90,000 if they work for a corporation that’s trying to get a patent or to protect one they already have. With a couple of years’ experience, they can expect a 10 percent jump or better when they get another job.

Legal secretaries, meanwhile, might make $65,000 at a law firm or $55,000 at a corporation. Should they choose to move to a new employer, they can command close to a 10 percent bump in pay.

Technology

Two tech jobs in high demand these days are .NET (dot net) developers and quality assurance analysts.

Developers who are expert users of Microsoft’s software programming language .NET can make between $75,000 and $85,000 a year in major cities. If they pursue a job at a company that seeks someone with a background in a given field (say, a firm looking for a .NET developer experienced in using software related to derivatives) they might snag a salary hike of 15 percent or more when they switch jobs.

Those who work in software quality management, meanwhile, might make $65,000 to $75,000 a year and be able to negotiate a 10 percent to 15 percent jump in pay if they switch jobs.

Manufacturing and engineering

Despite all the announced job cuts in the automotive industry, quality and process engineers, as well as plant managers certified in what’s known as “Lean Manufacturing” techniques, are hot commodities.

The same applies to professionals in similar positions at other types of manufacturers.

One Lean Manufacturing technique is to use video cameras to capture the manufacturing process. A quality engineer will analyze the tapes to identify areas in the process that create inefficiencies or excess waste, both in terms of materials and workers’ time.

Process and manufacturing engineers might make between $65,000 and $75,000. With a certification in lean manufacturing and a few years’ experience, they can command pay hikes of between 15 percent and 20 percent if they choose to switch jobs.

Each year, Technology Review selects what it believes are the 10 most important emerging technologies. The winners are chosen based on the editors’ coverage of key fields.

The question that we ask is simple: is the technology likely to change the world? Some of these changes are on the largest scale possible: better biofuels, more efficient solar cells, and green concrete all aim at tackling global warming in the years ahead.

Other changes will be more local and involve how we use technology: for example, 3-D screens on mobile devices, new applications for cloud computing, and social television. And new ways to implant medical electronics and develop drugs for diseases will affect us on the most intimate level of all, with the promise of making our lives healthier.

Here’s the list of top 10 emerging technologies for year 2010:

1. Real-Time Search

Social networking is changing the way we find information. Real-time search is a response to a fundamental shift in the way people use the Web. People used to visit a page, click a link, and visit another page. Now they spend a lot of time monitoring streams of data–tweets, status updates, headlines–from services like Facebook and Twitter, as well as from blogs and news outlets.

2. Mobile 3-D

Smart phones will take 3-D mainstream. The technology can be used with the much-hyped 3-D televisions announced in January (which require glasses), but its biggest impact will be as a way to create content for mobile devices with auto stereoscopic 3-D displays, which work by directing light to deliver different versions of an image directly to each of a viewer’s eyes. The effect works best over a narrow range of viewing angles, so it is ill suited to television or cinema screens. But phones are generally used by one person at a time and are easily held at the optimum angle. That’s why mobile multimedia devices are likely to win the race to bring 3-D into the mainstream.

3. Engineered Stem Cells

Mimicking human disease in a dish. Scientists can create stem cells from the adult cells of people with different disorders, such as diabetes, and induce them to differentiate into the types of cells damaged by the disease. This could allow researchers to watch the disease as it unfolds and trace the molecular processes that have gone awry.

4. Solar Fuel

Designing the perfect renewable fuel. When Noubar Afeyan, the CEO of Flagship Ventures in Cambridge, MA, set out to invent the ideal renewable fuel, he decided to eliminate the middleman. Biofuels ultimately come from carbon dioxide and water, so why persist in making them from biomass–corn or switchgrass or algae? “What we wanted to know,” Afeyan says, “is could we engineer a system that could convert carbon dioxide directly into any fuel that we wanted?”

The answer seems to be yes, according to Joule Biotechnologies, the company that Afeyan founded (also in Cambridge) to design this new fuel. By manipulating and designing genes, Joule has created photosynthetic microörganisms that use sunlight to efficiently convert carbon dioxide into ethanol or diesel–the first time this has ever been done, the company says. Joule grows the microbes in photobioreactors that need no fresh water and occupy only a fraction of the land needed for biomass-based approaches. The creatures secrete fuel continuously, so it’s easy to collect. Lab tests and small trials lead Afeyan to estimate that the process will yield 100 times as much fuel per hectare as fermenting corn to produce ethanol, and 10 times as much as making it from sources such as agricultural waste. He says costs could be competitive with those of fossil fuels.

5. Light-Trapping Photovoltaics

Nanoparticles boost solar power’s prospects. Plasmons are a type of wave that moves through the electrons at the surface of a metal when they are excited by incident light. Others had tried harnessing plasmonic effects to make conventional silicon photovoltaics more efficient, but no one had tried it with thin-film solar cells. Kylie Catchpole, a research fellow at the Australian National University in Canberra found that nanoparticles of silver she deposited on the surface of a thin-film silicon solar cell did not reflect back light that fell directly onto them, as would happen with a mirror. Instead, plasmons that formed at the particles’ surface deflected the photons so that they bounced back and forth within the cell, allowing longer wavelengths to be absorbed.

Catchpole’s experimental devices produce 30 percent more electrical current than conventional thin-film silicon cells. If Catchpole can integrate her nanoparticle technology with the processes used to mass-produce thin films commercially, it could shift the balance of technology used in solar cells. Thin-film photovoltaics could not only gain market share (they currently have just 30 percent of the market in the United States) but sustain growth in the solar industry overall.

6. Social TV

Relying on relationships to rebuild TV audiences. The viewership for live television broadcasts has generally been declining for years. But something surprising is happening: events such as the winter Olympics and the Grammys are drawing more viewers and more buzz. The rebound is happening at least in part because of new viewing habits: while people watch, they are using smart phones or laptops to swap texts, tweets, and status updates about celebrities, characters, and even commercials.

Carriers, networks, and content producers hope that making it easier for viewers to link up with friends will help them hold on to their audiences rather than losing them to services like Hulu, which stream shows over the Internet. And opening TV to social networking could make it easier for companies to provide personalized programming.

7. Green Concrete

Storing carbon dioxide in cement. Making cement for concrete involves heating pulverized limestone, clay, and sand to 1,450 °C with a fuel such as coal or natural gas. The process generates a lot of carbon dioxide: making one metric ton of commonly used Portland cement releases 650 to 920 kilograms of it. The 2.8 billion metric tons of cement produced worldwide in 2009 contributed about 5 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions.

Nikolaos Vlasopoulos, chief scientist at London-based startup Novacem, discovered the recipe for Novacem’s cement as a grad student at Imperial College London. “I was investigating cements produced by mixing magnesium oxides with Portland cement,” he says. But when he added water to the magnesium compounds without any Portland in the mix, he found he could still make a solid-setting cement that didn’t rely on carbon-rich limestone. And as it hardened, atmospheric carbon dioxide reacted with the magnesium to make carbonates that strengthened the cement while trapping the gas. Novacem is now refining the formula so that the product’s mechanical performance will equal that of Portland cement.

8. Implantable Electronics

Dissolvable devices make better medical implants. The next generation of implantable medical devices will rely on a high-tech material forged not in the foundry but in the belly of a worm. Tufts University biomedical engineer Fiorenzo Omenetto is using silk as the basis for implantable optical and electronic devices that will act like a combination vital-sign monitor, blood test, imaging center, and pharmacy–and will safely break down when no longer needed.

Implanted electronics could provide a clearer picture of what’s going on inside the body to help monitor chronic diseases or progress after surgery, but biocompatibility issues restrict their use. Many materials commonly used in electronics cause immune reactions when implanted. And in most cases today’s implantable devices must be surgically replaced or removed at some point, so it’s only worth using an implant for critical devices such as pacemakers. Silk, however, is biodegradable and soft; it carries light like optical glass; and while it can’t be made into a transistor or an electrical wire, it can serve as a mechanical support for arrays of electrically active devices, allowing them to sit right on top of biological tissues without causing irritation. Depending on how it’s processed, silk can be made to break down inside the body almost instantly or to persist for years. And it can be used to store delicate molecules like enzymes for a long time.

9. Dual-Action Antibodies

Fighting cancer more efficiently. At Genentech’s sprawling headquarters south of San Francisco, senior scientist Germaine Fuh has been genetically redesigning two of the company’s most lucrative cancer drugs. One, Herceptin, is a monoclonal antibody that shuts down HER2, a growth accelerator in about 20 percent of breast tumors. The other, Avastin, is an antibody that blocks a protein that stimulates the formation of tumor- feeding blood vessels. Last year the drugs had combined sales of $11 billion; a full course of Herceptin at wholesale costs about $43,000, while treating a breast cancer patient with a full course of Avastin costs about $55,000. Fuh’s goal: to show she can provide greater benefit for people fighting breast cancer by combining the action of the antibodies in one molecule. Last year, she and her coworkers showed that a modified version of the Herceptin antibody not only shut down the HER2 receptor in mice but also locked onto VEGF, Avastin’s target.

10. Cloud Programming

A new language will improve online applications.Cloud computing offers the promise of virtually unlimited processing and storage power, courtesy of vast data centers run by companies like Amazon and Google. But programmers don’t know how best to exploit this power.

Today, many developers are converting existing programs to run on clouds, rather than creating new types of applications that could work nowhere else. And they are held back by difficulties in keeping track of data and getting reliable information about what’s going on across a cloud. If programmers could solve those problems, they could start to really take advantage of what’s possible with a cloud. For example, an online music retailer could monitor popular social-media feeds; if a singer suddenly became a hot topic, advertising and special offers across the retailer’s site could be instantly reconfigured to make the most of the spike in interest.

I live a very blessed life. I have abundance, I write about topics I’m passionate about, laugh often, and find the most amazing things in the smallest things in life. It seems like people that I need to connect with appear to me when the time is just right for them to appear and opportunities come at the perfect times. Life is moving along nicely.

As a matter of fact, one of the intentions I have set for myself at the start of 2010 was to do more traveling. So I’m actually planning a trip in the near future to Costa Rica where I will document my stay there via this blog, and also video.

I have found that applying the tools found in the book/movie The Secret has really changed my life in a positive way.

Is That Real?

When I first introduced this “secret” a several years back to some of my friends, I was met with some enthusiasm, but a lot of skepticism as well. Applying the tools such as creative visualization, thinking positive, and making vision boards just seems “to good to be true.” The mere thought of simply thinking about something you desire and making intentions for it to arrive and sitting back watching it physically come in tangible form, sounds like something good on the surface, but not something that is “realistic.”

Logic Vs. Intuition

When I use my logical left brain to truly make an effort to analyze the law of attraction, or the power of intention, I admit it I too find it very hard to believe. How can I just think of something that I want, and all of a sudden it will manifest into reality? Don’t I have to work really hard and face many challenges to get that thing I wanted? The challenges may come up at times, but after I’d say about 4 years of actively practicing how to work with the universe in a natural way, versus against it, I have found my own little space of creating positive outcomes for myself by going with the flow.

Once again, the concept as I understand as the Law of Attraction is something I probably am best just living out instead of trying hard to describe in words. After all, it isn’t something very logical, and if I step into the logic of it, I may just be doing myself and my readers a disservice because both logic and how law of attraction work don’t really go hand in hand.

Example 1

It’s very similar to trying to logically explain how intuition or how synchronistic events work. For example, have you ever been thinking about someone and all of a sudden that person give you a call on the phone, and you are surprised and with excitement tell that person “That’s a coincidence! I was just thinking about you!”

Can you logically explain how that process works? If you can, please leave me a comment below I’d love to read your feedback. But, for the majority of people trying to logically translate the reason that “coincidence” happened would prove to be very difficult right?

The same is true for applying the principles that the law of attraction can help you manifest in your life the things you want, versus the things you don’t want.

Example 2

Let me give you another example, have you ever jumped in the air in this (physical realm) and just stayed up in the air and began to float? Just decided to stay up there for a few minutes, and hang out?

No. The reason you can’t stay up in the air for a few minutes or however long you like is because, there is this law in the universe called gravity that exists. This law of gravity is always there. You throw a ball in the air, eventually it comes back to ground level. Any object that consist of matter will come back down to the ground level.

How many of you actually go into the books, and research logically why this happens? I am sure that if you really tried your very best, you can quantify this law in numbers, words, and the like.

So why can’t I logically describe the law of attraction? Which says that like energy attracts like energy, or what you think about your attract in into your life.

The reason I can’t logically describe it is because that’s not my life path or job here on earth. It’s like when I jump in the air, (I jump very high by the way) I know that I will come back down and land on my feet. It is something I just accept as the reality. I don’t feel the need to go to the books, and find the numbers, theories, or exact logic to define and explain to everyone I know why this happen, it just happens.

The difficult Part About it: Teaching It To Others. The difficult part for me at this stage in my manifestation, is teaching why and how the law of attraction works.

It’s not difficult for me to apply these principles with success, because I have trained my mind and my perceptions to just accept it as real. Therefore what I experience in life at this stage in my life is really amazing and spectacular. The more I apply the law of attraction principles, the more I learn about myself and to be honest the more better results I receive. It’s like a little game I test myself with. However, in my case, this is the game of life. So it’s a serious matter, but at the same time very fun and exciting. Life is an adventure anyway, so I decide to experience it that way.

Furthermore, the second difficult part about explaining I also think is because, once you start applying things like creative visualization, affirmations, you begin to see it more of a way of life, versus a “one time thing.” I have found that it allows you take more responsibility for your life, because in essence it is you creating your life.

Law of Attraction as a Way of Life

Seeing the law of attraction is a “one time thing” I think is where a lot of people get hung up on. They start to think that this whole idea is some “hocus pocus” stuff that they will try once and if what they intended for doesn’t come immediately, than according to them it most not work and they begin to slip back into their normal comfortable life where things made more “logical sense.” It’s interesting if you look at very successful people today, they are people who are persistent, and persevere through rejection or failure. How is this idea any different? It really is about alignment. You have to be in alignment with what your life’s purpose is. As you begin to come in alignment with your life’s purpose you will see that the law of attraction is something that is very natural and real in your life.

I have found that people that are out of alignment with their life’s purpose, or have no intention on searching for their life’s purpose, are also those same people that find the need to logically find the reasons why the Law of attraction doesn’t work. Unless of course, their life’s purpose is to be critical, but you get my point.

Have you been applying the Law of Attraction/ The Power of Intention in your life?

There are thousands of dollars to be made in internet marketing, and the number of success stories of people earning thousands of dollars a month with internet marketing is growing every year. But there is a big mistake that I see internet marketers making all the time that is costing them thousands.

I am acutely aware of this mistake as I made it myself when I first started building my blog many years ago. As many people do I got swept up in the idea that I could make a full time income online blogging. After all is Darren of Problogger.net and Yaro of Entrepreneurs-Journey.com can make over $20,000/month why couldn’t I earn just $2,000/month.

So I started building my blog and I was blogging away 2-3 times per day (just like the pros do it) and within a few months I started seeing some progress…but not much. I was earning less than $100/month and I was working my ass to the bone. It wasn’t long before I was tired from all the work and poor from not making any money.

Little did I know that I was making the biggest mistake an internet marketer can make. It was this mistake that was keeping me poor and it wasn’t until I realized that much luck began to change.

I now work less than ever and earn more than ever. I don’t blog 2-3 times per day like I was doing. In fact I closed down my profitable blog because I was making more money in other ventures and I didn’t want the work that went with maintaining a blog. Now I just keep a personal blog for fun.

So what is this massive mistake that internet marketers fail to realize?

Not Building An Email List

That is right! Failing to build an email subscriber list is the biggest mistake you can make as an internet marketer.

The value of an email marketing list has long been debated, with professional internet marketers sitting on both sides of the fence. But the evidence for the value of an internet marketing list cannot be denied.

In his article Blog Marketing vs. Email Marketing vs. Twitter Marketing John proves that email marketing is one of the best ways to generate income online.

When I started my blog and was working myself into the ground to get it up and running I wasn’t failing because I was a bad writer or had a bad blog, I was failing because I wasn’t utilizing the power of email marketing.

Why Is An Email List So Vital To Your Success?

I have made a big claim here, but let me show you why an email list is so vital to your success.

You Don’t Have To Drive Traffic To Drive Sales

Traditional email marketing requires you to continually drive traffic to your site (and to affiliate sites) in order to make money. With email marketing you only have to drive traffic once, and then once you capture that persons email address you can market to them over and over and over again without having to drive them to your site.

An Email List Builds Over Time

Unlike PPC marketing (where the traffic stops if you stop paying) email marketing builds over time. Once someone subscribes to your email newsletter it is unlikely that they will unsubscribe. Some people will, but the majority of people will stay subscribed. This means that you can build your list over time, and the more you build your list the more money you make with each new offer you send out.

A Good Email List Is Like A Bank Account

A good email list is like a bank account. But when you need money, instead of going to the ATM, you send out an email. If you have a sizeable list that you have been building over time then you are almost guaranteed instant results…within the hour. Most other methods of marketing don’t work that quickly over and over and over.

It Can Be Completely Automated

If you use Aweber for your email marketing then you can completely automate your entire sales system. No more late nights writing articles or managing your PPC campaigns. You write your emails once and plug them into Aweber’s email autoresponder system. When someone signs up for your newsletter they automatically go through your sales funnel one email at a time. Aweber markets for you while you focus on the important things (like having fun).

You Can Focus

Everyone knows that focusing produces results. You are more likely to succeed if you focus on building one blog than if you try to build 50 blogs at once. The same comes for internet marketing. If you can focus on one thing you can generate better results. Because Aweber does everything on autopilot all you have to focus on is generating traffic. Your squeeze page is up, your emails are done and all you have to do is drive traffic and get subscribers. By just focusing on driving traffic you can receive better results than you ever would have if you were trying to do 10 things at once (update your blog, manage your PPC campaigns, set up affiliate sites etc etc).

Some people may disagree with me, that failing to build an email list isn’t the biggest mistake you could ever make as an email marketer. But the proof this there and it cannot be denied, email marketing is vital to your success.

Kevin Geary is the author of Employee Revolution: A guide to being indispensable, irreplaceable, and higher paid (without lying, cheating, or joining a union).

If you have a personal blog, I’m talking directly to you. If you don’t have a personal blog, get one now. Sorry, but this surefire strategy doesn’t work unless you have a personal blog (you can keep your other blogs, you just need a personal one too).

What is a resume`?

Try not to fall asleep. This is short and to the point, I promise.

A resume is a list of your qualifications on one page. It’s supposed to make it easy for a company to quickly determine whether or not you are qualified for a job.

But companies actually use your resume` as an excuse to exclude you.

Secret: They don’t look at what’s there, they look at what’s missing. The key is to not play by the rules.

This is where your personal blog comes in. The resume` is dead. It’s time to be unique. It’s time to be relevant. It’s time to be revolutionary. It’s time to be a real problogger.

I want you to use your personal blog as a launch pad for your dream career. The personal blog is the new resume` of the revolutionary.

What’s it look like?

In the new global economy, skills and titles are commodities. The times are changing so quickly that it’s nearly impossible to keep up, much less completely stand apart from others skill-wise or title-wise.

How much better of a programmer are you really? How many more titles can you achieve over the next person in line? How much faster can you complete the design process? It’s all a race in the wrong direction because there’s always someone (or a computer) who can do it better and faster than you (or good enough to get paid a little less and keep the job).

What’s important for the revolutionary is not physical skill and titles (things that look good on resume`s) as much as it is: personality, uniqueness, imagination, relevance, artistry, passion, personal connection, fearlessness, and problem solving. These are things that can’t be replicated; things that make you an individual and not a commodity.

It’s also a list of things that are impossible to communicate on a resume`.

Your personal blog is going to tell your real story. It’s not the story of physical skills and titles. It’s the story of getting things done. It’s the story of being invaluable. It’s the story of doing what nobody else has done, solving problems nobody else could solve, and not just having ideas, but consistently acting-on and shipping them (getting your idea to the public).

The revolutionary doesn’t have a resume`. The revolutionary has a story that is digitally recorded, spread across the globe, talked about, shared, commented on, revered, admired, hated, and loved. It’s uniqueness translates into scarcity, which translates into value in the marketplace.

Your personal blog is a chance to tell who you are and show what you do (beyond skills and titles) in a way that makes you irresistible. It’s the way you’re going to land the job you really want. It’s the way you’re going to make an absolute fortune.

This is where you expect the list.

There is no list. There can’t be. If there was a step by step process to creating a blog that accomplishes what we just talked about, everyone would have one.

There’s only step one: get started. Use what you’ve learned here from Darren to get everything set up. Then think about answering the following questions:

Who are you, really?

Why are you different?

How are you relevant?

What have you accomplished (not ideas, but actual accomplishments in your industry)?

What do you think?

Who will recommend you?

What have they said about you?

What are your ideas?

What problems have you solved?

There are many more, but I think you get the point. These are all things a company should ask, but doesn’t. This is how you change the rules. This is how you win.

The revolution is new, but the revolution is real. I invite you to leave the confines of the box everyone lives in and be a revolutionary. You’re important. We need you.
